Day6 Strengthening Arguments

ObjectivesWe will be able to:

• Briefly describe, give an example, and identify 2 common logical fallacies in argumentation - hasty generalization and argument with missing premise
• Generate different kinds of evidence/persuasive strategies to support an argument (e.g. statistics, anecdotes, answering the opposition, citing authorities, appealing to emotion) and analyze their varying strengths and appropriateness for academic writing
• Strengthen the arguments in their writing by incorporating at least three different types of aforementioned evidence
• Identify and eliminate logical fallacies in their writing

Warm-up Discussion (5-10min)
Persuade your friend to buy your stuff!

• How did you try to convince your friend? Did you try more than one strategy? 
• Did it work? Why or why not?

Find classmates with the same color strip and try to determine why your sentences are logically defective.
After the discussion, let's find out how to avoid logical fallacies.
