Day18 Choosing a Research Paper Topic

Warm-up
Review for IRP and Pre-research Portfolio
Class Discussion
What Makes a Good Research Topic?
This PowerPoint gives you some guidelines and hints to help you narrow down your choice of topics.
The most important one is probably the reminder of targeting a general audience, since you want to pick a topic that will interest all of your peers.

Students discuss their topics
In your groups, discuss your topics and narrow it down to one topic per group.
Use the checklist to choose the topic that best fits the criteria. Decide on ONE topic, the best topic from your group.
Choose a representative from your group to come to the front of the class and tell us about your group’s chosen topic.
Defending the Topic
Choose one group speaker to come to the front of the class and convince everyone that your topic is the best,
making references to the checklist. This is a good way to practice impromptu speaking skills.
Students vote
Vote for your first and second choice….Ok, now we have narrowed it down to two topics.
Vote again for your favorite option.
Homework
Due March, 4th, Tuesday, 11:59PM
